Our first ever Striped Red Bourbon, grown at 1,850 m.a.s.l. at Finca Santa Barbara in Cauca, Colombia.

A washed coffee with a bright, juicy and highly expressive profile, bringing notes of raspberry, grapefruit and delicate florals. It has the kind of clarity and sparkling acidity that makes it particularly exciting as a filter coffee.

Background

Striped Red Bourbon is a rare coffee variety that was first identified in Colombia. It gets its name from the distinctive orange stripes that appear on the skin of ripe red cherries. Farmers noticed these unusual cherries growing on certain Red Bourbon trees, began separating them, and found that they produced a notably different cup.

The variety is still relatively new and its exact genetic background is not fully understood, which makes coffees like this particularly interesting to explore. This lot comes from Finca Santa Barbara, a 14 hectare farm in La Marquesa, Sotará, where Striped Red Bourbon grows alongside varieties such as Pink Bourbon and Geisha under native shade trees. The coffee is processed through Área 18, a processing centre established in 2024 with a focus on exploring new ways to extract more value from the coffee cherry while improving sustainability and returns for producers.
