This is the first washed Kenyan coffee we've released. We've tasted quite a few Kenyan coffees this year, and this has been our favourite so far. Exceptionally clean, vibrant, and packed with the classic character that makes Kenyan coffees so special.
Tegu is one of three wet mills operated by the Tekangu Farmers Cooperative Society near Karatina in Nyeri, Kenya, a region renowned for producing some of the country's finest coffees. Founded in 1969, the cooperative supports around 1,200 smallholder farmers, most cultivating less than half a hectare.
The name Tegu means "low place", reflecting its location in the foothills between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Range. Cherries are carefully hand sorted, floated, depulped, fermented, washed, soaked, and then slowly dried on raised beds, producing the clean and vibrant profile for which Nyeri coffees are renowned.
